=============================================

TWO QUESTION:

Our questions this month comes from a reader in Knox, Indiana.                                                   {1} "Why do churches of Christ take the Lord's Supper every Sunday?"  -

{2} Define the Lord’s Supper?

ANSWER:

With these two questions as with all questions that pertain to spiritual things, all honest, sincere, people will seek the answer within the pages of the Holy Scripture.  There is no spiritual "TRUTH" that does not have its origin within the Scripture, therefore the answer to this question will be found therein as with all previous answers given by G.L.Clair.

CONSIDER THIS:

The Bible clearly teaches that the Lord's Supper is a memorial to Christ's death, 1 Corinthians 11:22-26 --- 22 what? Have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? Or despise ye the church of God, and shame them that have not? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you in this? I praise you not. 23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: 24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. 25 after the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in my blood: this do you, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. 26 for as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do show the Lord's death till he come.

The Lord's Supper is to be taken each and ever time the first day of the week occurs (i.e., each week),  simply because the first day of the week occurs and there is instruction (i.e., apostolic example and necessary inference-- see Note at conclusion) to take it on that day, Acts 20:7;   "And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight."  (KJV)     As those under the Law of Moses understood that the Sabbath Day, each and every one, was to be observed -- we, under the dispensation of Christ understand that we are to remember the Lord's Supper each Lord's Day (i.e., Sunday).

There is no statement in the Old Testament that specifically instructs the keepers of the Mosaic Law to "keep each Sabbath day." yet the keepers of the Mosaic Law to this day so understood the instruction to include every Sabbath Day.

NOTE:

The instruction regarding the Lord’s Supper in the Bible is understood in at least three methods:

1. Direct commands - statements that are made direct,

Example -- Matthew 28:18, “GO INTO ALL THE WORLD, etc."

Direct Command -- "GO INTO ALL THE WORLD"

2. Binding Apostolic example -- examples of action by the apostles that constitute part of the instruction of the Holy Spirit regarding work, organization of the Church, and lifestyle that is binding on  Christians of all generations,

Example -- Acts 20:7, "Upon the first day of the week THE DISCIPLES CAME TOGETHER TO BREAK BREAD, AND PAUL ..."

Apostolic example -- Paul the apostle met with the disciples to "break bread" (i.e. take the

Lord's Supper)  In consequence of Paul's actions here we understand that Paul approved of and participated in the keeping of the Lord's Supper on the first day of the week.

3. Necessary inference -- an inference from the context that forces one to a conclusion about an event, etc.

Example -- frequency of the Lord's Supper observance  … Notice in the Text of Acts 20:7 that the day is specific (i.e., the first day of the week), but the frequency is not.  Since the day is specified (i.e., the first day of the week -- SUNDAY) and Sunday comes each week, the text necessarily infers that the Lord's Supper is to be observed each time Sunday occurs -- each week.

FURTHER THOUGHTS ON THE LORD’S SUPPER …

1. The Lord’s institutes His Memorial …

Mark 14:22-25 - 22 and as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and broke it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body. 23 And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it. 24 And he said unto them, this is my blood of the New Testament, which is shed for many. 25 Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God. {KJV} … SEE ALSO – Mark 14:22-25 and Luke 22:18-20

1 Corinthians 10:16-17 - 16 the cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? 17 for we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread. {KJV}

1 Corinthians 11:23-26 - 23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: 24 And when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. 25 after the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. 26 for as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do show the Lord's death till he come. {KJV}

SEE ALSO – Mark 14:22-25 and Luke 22:18-20

2. References to the Lord’s Supper in Acts 20:7 - and upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight. {KJV}

Verse 7 - The last period of seven days included and was terminated by the Lord's Day. (7) “And on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break the loaf, Paul discoursed to them, about to depart on the next day, and continued his discourse till midnight.” This passage indicates both the day of the week in which the disciples broke the loaf, and the prime object of their meeting on that day  - {i.e. observing the Lord’s Supper glc}. It shows that the loaf was broken on the first day of the week; and we have no apostolic precedent for breaking it on any other day.

The disciples came together on that day, even though Paul and Luke and Timothy, and all he brethren who had come from Greece, were present, not primarily to hear one or more of them discourse, but “to break the loaf.” Such is the distinct statement of the historian. That such was an established custom in the Churches is implied in a rebuke administered by Paul to the Church at Corinth, in which he says: “When you come together in one place, it is not to eat the Lord's Supper.” Now, for this they would not have deserved censure, had it not been that to eat the Lord's Supper was the proper object of their assemblage. These facts are sufficient to establish the conclusion that the main object of the Lord's-day meeting was to break the loaf.

This conclusion will be of service to us in seeking to determine the frequency with which the loaf was broken. If the prime object of the Lord's-day meeting was to celebrate the Lord's Supper, then all the evidence we have of the custom of meeting every Lord's Day is equally conclusive in reference to the weekly observance of the Lord's Supper. But the former custom is universally admitted by Christians of the present day, and therefore there should be no dispute in reference to the latter.

It must, in candor, be admitted, that there is no express statement in the New Testament that the disciples broke the loaf every Lord's day; neither is it stated that they met every Lord's Day. Yet the question, how often shall the congregation meet together to break the loaf, is one which can not be avoided, but must be settled practically in some way. The different religious parties have hitherto agreed upon a common principle of action, which is, that each may settle the question according to its own judgment of what is most profitable and expedient. This principle, if applied by congregations instead of parties, is a safe one in reference to matters upon which we have no means of knowing the divine will, or the apostolic custom. But when we can determine, with even a good degree of probability, an apostolic custom, our own judgment should yield to it. So all parties have reasoned in reference to the Lord's Day. The intimations contained in the New Testament, together with the universal custom known to have existed in the Churches during the age succeeding that of the apostles, has been decided by them all as sufficient to establish the divine authority of the religious observance of the Lord's day; and yet they have not consented to the weekly observance of the Lord's supper, the proof of which is precisely the same.

As a practical issue between the advocates of weekly communion and their opponents, the questions really has reference to the comparative weight of evidence in favor of this practice, and of monthly, quarterly, or yearly communion. When it is thus presented, no one can long hesitate as to the conclusion; for in favor of either of the intervals last mentioned there is not the least evidence, either in the New Testament, or in the uninspired history of the Churches. On the other hand, it is the universal testimony of antiquity that the Churches of the second century broke the loaf every Lord's Day, and considered it a custom of apostolic appointment. Now it can not be doubted that the apostolic Churches had some regular interval at which to celebrate this institution, and seeing that all the evidence there is in the case is in favor of a weekly celebration, there is no room for a reasonable doubt that this was the interval which they adopted.

It is very generally admitted, even among parties who do not observe the practice themselves, that the apostolic Churches broke the loaf weekly; but it is still made a question whether, in the absence of an express commandment, this example is binding upon us. This question is likely to be determined differently by two different classes of men. Those who are disposed to follow chiefly the guide of their own judgment, or of their denominational customs, will feel little influenced by such a precedent. But to those who are determined that the very slightest indication of the divine will shall govern them, the question must present itself in this way: “We are commanded to do this in memory of Jesus. We are not told, in definite terms, how often it shall be done; but we find that the apostles established the custom of meeting every Lord's Day for this purpose. This is an inspired precedent, and with it we must comply. We can come to no other conclusion without assuming an ability to judge of this matter with more wisdom than did the apostle.”  Reference - Acts of the Apostles

3. Words that refer to the Lord’ Day worship around the table …

LORD’S SUPPER – COMMUNION -  FELLOWSHIP …

Lord’s Supper - 1 Corinthians 11:20 - When ye come together therefore into one place, this is not to eat the Lord's Supper {KJV}

Communion - 1 Cor. 10:16 - the cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?

Commentary - 1 Cor. 10:16–22. The cup of blessing which we bless. A name applied to the cup used in the Lord's Supper. Paul shows, from the nature of the Lord's Supper, and of the Jewish sacrificial feasts, that to eat in an idol feast is an idol communion. 17. For we being many are one bread. One loaf. There being one loaf implies that we Christians, though many, are all one body, and joint participators of the one body of Christ. Paul had no conception of a divided church. 18. Behold Israel after the flesh. The natural Israel, in contrast with the spiritual Israel, the church. Are not they … partakers of the altar? A part of the sacrifice was eaten by the offerers and their friends, and as a part was burnt on the altar, as an offering to God, they were supposed to be partakers with God in the feast. So, too, those who partook of an idol feast, would be worshipers of the idol. 19. What say I then? He had said an idol was nothing (8:4). Does he not now imply an idol is something? 20. He affirms nothing of the kind, but he does say that the sacrifices which the Gentiles sacrifice are to devils. The idol is nothing, but to the worshiper it is a reality. That reality is not God, but really a demon. The gods were mainly dead kings and heroes who had been deified. The diamonia, or demons, were the spirits of dead men. The worship was really demon worship. Fellowship with devils; Demons. If the feast of the Lord's Supper is communion with Christ, the feast of the altar sacrifice communion with God, who is worshiped, the feast of the idol is communion with the idol. Yet this idol in the mind of the worshiper is a diamonion, a demon. 21. Ye cannot drink, etc. So inconsistent are the two with each other that no man can commune with Christ who partakes of the feast of the demon. Cup of devils. The libations offered at the idol sacrifices. A part of the cup was poured on the altar, and a part drunk by the offerers. See Ζneid 8:273. Table of devils. The table in the idol temple where a feast was spread. 22. Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Such acts in an idol temple would be worship of the idol. Yet Jehovah says that he is “a jealous God” (Exodus 20:5).

Volume 13               Number 11                November 2011

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

DEAR PREACHER/TEACHER

ARE YOU DEALING WITH DISCOURAGEMENT

CONSIDER THIS:

Do you feel downhearted or discouraged; thinking your preaching/teaching  is falling on disinterested years? Do the burdens thrust upon you cause you to tremble?

I.  Well, it is fairly certain that you occasionally do, for discouragement is a very common ailment. Perhaps you have had a spirit kindred to Elijah, who felt all alone in his struggles, 1 Kings 19:8, “8 And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.”

Elijah finally became so discouraged that he told God that he felt alone in the work --1 Kings 19:9-10, “9 And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of Jehovah came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah? 10 And he said, I have been very jealous for Jehovah, the God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword: and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.” ASV

II.  There was a time in David's life when he reached the point of despair, but he came out of it. How was he able to overcome his discouragement? Notice the antidote David applied to his life: "and David was greatly distressed...but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God" (1 Samuel 30:6).

What can be gained from the context of this passage to help us overcome discouragement?

1.  Seek the presence of God.  David did that as he "inquired of the Lord" (1 Sam. 30:8). This is the first step we must take if we are to cast off discouragement. Get into the presence of the Lord and tell Him everything. "...casting all your care upon Him for He careth for you" (1 Pet. 5:7).

There is wonderful relief and release even in the process of telling Him of our discouragement Hebrews 4:15-16, “15 For we have not a high priest that cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but one that hath been in all points tempted like as (we are, yet) without sin. 16 Let us therefore draw near with boldness unto the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and may find grace to help (us) in time of need.” ASV

2.  Share in the fellowship of the people of God.  David went to Abiathar the priest    1 Samuel 20:7, “7 If he say thus, It is well; thy servant shall have peace: but if he be wroth, then know that evil is determined by him.” ASV

There is great value in sharing our joys, sorrows, and discouragements with others

who are likeminded with us 1 Corinthians 12:26, “26 And whether one member suffereth, all the members suffer with it; or (one) member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.” ASV

If you are discouraged, try encouraging someone else and it will help make your own discouragement disappear Galatians 6:10, “10 So then, as we have opportunity, let us work that which is good toward all men, and especially toward them that are of the household of the faith.” ASV                                                                                                                                                           1 Thessalonians 5:13, “13 and to esteem them exceeding highly in love for their work's sake. Be at peace among yourselves.” ASV

3.  Lean upon the promises of God.  David depended upon God in this dark moment. Notice the words, "Thou {You} shall surely...without fail..." (1 Sam. 30:8).

There are many promises God has made to us, and not one of them has ever failed, nor will one of them ever fail                                                                                                                        Mark 13:31, “Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

is there anything, anywhere that will more quickly banish discouragement than God's wonderful promises?                                                                                                                                   Hebrews 13:5, “Be ye free from the love of money; content with such things as ye have: for himself hath said, I will in no wise fail thee, neither will I in any wise forsake thee.”

Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things in him that strengtheneth me.”

2 Corinthians 9:8-10, “8 And God is able to make all grace abound unto you; that ye, having always all sufficiency in everything, may abound unto every good work: 9 as it is written, He hath scattered abroad, he hath given to the poor; His righteousness abideth for ever. 10 And he that supplieth seed to the sower and bread for food, shall supply and multiply your seed for sowing, and increase the fruits of

your righteousness:” ASV

1 Samuel 22:3, “And David went thence to Mizpeh of Moab: and he said unto the king of Moab, Let my father and my mother, I pray thee, come forth, (and be) with you, till I know what God will do for me.” ASV

Psalms 19:14, “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight, O Jehovah, my rock, and my redeemer.” ASV

Psalms 23:4, “Yea, thou I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.” ASV

4.  Remember the providence of God.  Although David was passing through a time

of upheaval, of loss, of distress, and discouragement, yet God was silently planning

READ …

1 Samuel 30:11-16, “11 And they found an Egyptian in the field, and brought him to David, and gave him bread, and he did eat; and they gave him water to drink. 12 And they gave him a piece of a cake of figs, and two clusters of raisins: and when he had eaten, his spirit came again to him; for he had eaten no bread, nor drunk any water, three days and three nights. 13 And David said unto him, To whom belongest thou? and whence art thou? And he said, I am a young man of Egypt, servant to an Amalekite; and my master left me, because three days ago I fell sick. 14 We made a raid upon the South of the Cherethites, and upon that which belongeth to Judah, and upon the South of Caleb; and we burned Ziklag with fire. 15 And David said to him, Wilt thou bring me down to this troop? And he said, Swear unto me by God, that thou wilt neither kill me, nor deliver me up into the hands of my master, and I will bring thee down to this troop. 16 And when he had brought him down, behold, they were spread abroad over all the ground, eating and drinking, and dancing, because of all the great spoil that they had taken out of the land of the Philistines, and out of the land of Judah.” ASV

CONCLUSION:

Dear preacher/teacher we must never forget God's ability to make "all things work together for good" in our lives (Romans 8:28).                        Internet - Sunday, December 31, 2006

============================================

WILL TRUE CHRISTIANITY

SURVIVE ON EARTH?

As we consider the direction of humankind toward secularism, hedonism, and continued war among nations plus division between races we may be quick to say: “no”! Yet; the majority of the world’s population is less-interested in true religion as any other people since time began. {i.e. the religion that Jesus Christ initiated when He arose from the grave according to the teaching found in the Bible}.

In recent months I have noticed a number of articles and short dissertations that openly suggest that the survival of the religion of Jesus Christ will disappear from the earth soon. These same authors also suggest that Jesus Christ is coming back to earth soon because man has so deeply corrupted himself and all religious institutions.

These serious questions and doubts that are appearing in printed and electronic media are contributing to despair and confusion in the minds of many people. The insistence of disastrous conclusions predicted by many of the authors about the false and evil actions of men and religious institutions are influencing many good people in their personal conclusions toward true religion {i.e. the religion of Jesus Christ – cf. see Matthew 28:18-20 and Acts 2:1-47 in the New Testament. From these readings in the Bible {i.e. see the KJV for accurate translation of these verses}. These predictors of the death of true religion have not considered the “true predictions” found in God’s Book that specify man’s inability to destroy God’s Word or God’s plans for humankind. Please note the following Biblical facts …

Matthew 13:25-30 - 25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. 26 but when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. 27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? From whence then hath it tares? 28 He said unto them, an enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? 29 but he said, nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn. {KJV}

The text explained …

The parable in verses 24-30 above. By a comparison we may learn:

1. the kingdom is likened to a man sowing good seed in his field.

2. the Sower is the Son of man, who sows by means of his kingdom

3. the good seed is the word of God as seen in its fruits, Christ's followers.

4. The field is the world. It is Christ's field. All power is given to him in heaven and in earth. His kingdom is rightfully the whole earth, but much of it is held still by the enemy, who has to be conquered. He will prevail finally, and the kingdoms of the earth shall become the kingdom of the Lord and his Christ.

5. The wheat raised from the good seed is the “children of the kingdom,” the Disciples of Christ converted by his word.

6. the tares are not bad church members, but bad men; those who have been under the influence of the wicked one

7. The righteous and wicked are to remain in the earth together. The righteous are not to exterminate the wicked. The evil and the good will be mixed until judgment day. 8. Then all shall be gathered at the throne of judgment. The righteous shall “inherit the kingdom.” All that are wicked shall be cast out of the kingdom. An eternal separation shall take place. —People's New Testament.

Yes; true Christianity {i.e. that which Jesus Christ established approximately CE 33} will remain on the earth as long as honest and sincere men and women seek heaven for their eternal home – cf. 1 Corinthians 15:19-28 - 19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. 20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. 21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming. 24 Then cometh the end , when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. 25 For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. 27 For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith, all things are put under him; it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him. 28 And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.

Indeed; the Devil will continue to corrupt mankind as long as the world exists; but the Devil’s end is predicted just as the second coming of Jesus Christ is promised to the faithful of every age of earth’s existence - Revelation 20:10-15 - 10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. 11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. {KJV}

GOD IS ETERNAL:

Since God is eternal the possibility of some failure to God’s promises and intentions is impossible. It was God who created all things and set all world operations into motion. To suggest that man will destroy the works of Almighty God is shear madness. God will continue from eternity to eternity without beginning or without end. This is mankind’s assurance that whatever God has revealed to mankind via His Book {i.e. the Bible - Jeremiah 10:23 - O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps. {KJV}; that is exactly what will happen.

Genesis 21:33 - And Abraham planted a grove in Beer-sheba, and called there on the name of the LORD, the everlasting God. {KJV}

Psalms 100:5 - For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations. {KJV}

John 12:44-50 - 44 Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me. 45 And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me. 46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness. 47 And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. 48 He that rejecteth me, and receives not my words, hath one that judges him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. 49 for I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. 50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak. {KJV}

THE KINGDOM OF GOD {i.e. the church} IS ETERNAL:

2 Peter 1:10-12 - 10 wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: 11 for so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 12 Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth. {KJV}

DO NOT BE DECVEIVED:

Romans 16:16-18 - 16 Salute one another with a holy kiss. The churches of Christ salute you. 17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. 18 for they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple. (KJV)

Consider this …

Therefore; since these things divinely revealed are true; man may confidently place his/her hope for the continued future of religion on the earth. I suggest that the projectors of the death of religion will be surprised come resurrection day when the following will occur …

2 Peter 3:10-14 - 10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, 12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. 14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

BECOME A CHRISTIAN BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE …

1 Peter 4:17-18 - 17 for the time (is come) for judgment to begin at the house of God: and if (it begin) first at us, what (shall be) the end of them that obey not the gospel of God? 18 And if the righteous is scarcely saved, where shall the ungodly and sinner appear?

2 Corinthians 5:10-11 - 10 For we must all be made manifest before the judgment-seat of Christ; that each one may receive the things (done) in the body, according to what he hath done, whether (it be) good or bad. 11 Knowing therefore the fear of the Lord, we persuade men, but we are made manifest unto God; and I hope that we are made manifest also in your consciences. {ASV}

Romans 14:8-12 - 8 For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; or whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's. 9 For to this end Christ died and lived (again), that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living. 10 but thou, why dost thou judge thy brother? Or thou again, why dost thou set at naught thy brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment-seat of God. 11 for it is written, as I live, saith the Lord, to me every knee shall bow, and every tongue shall confess to God. 12 So then each one of us shall give account of himself to God. {ASV}

IT IS AN IMPORTANT CONSIDERATION TO FAIL TO BECOME ...       A Christian and live a faithful life in God’s service. Far too many people are missing the great privilege of being a part of the Lord’s Family on earth! Consider joining us today – glclair@aol.com

===========================================

NOTE:  from the editor …

One of the problems in converting those who have been involved in a denominational church is their conditioning to accept anyone who claims to be a Christian regardless of what denomination they have been associated with. This problem is often deep-seated in the consciousness of the individual {i.e. sometimes in whole families] so that converting them to the true way and the true church is extremely difficult. To this problem I wish to dedicate the current bulletin {i.e. September 2011}.

The first article will include the teaching of the Bible about salvation from sin according to the Holy Scriptures. This plan of salvation outline is consistent with the New Testament as it is rightly divided; indeed; we understand that God’s Word is to be studied so that we may make the correct application of its teaching to a given subject. The apostle Paul makes this abundantly clear in his instruction in 2 Timothy 2:15 – “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” {KJV}

GOD’S PLAN OF SALVATION – CHART

God’s plan for man’s salvation from sin is not complicated; the plan is simple for those that seek and rightly divide the Holy Scriptures – {cf. 2 Timothy 3:15 - and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.  NKJV - 2 Timothy 2:15 - Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. NKJV

1.      One must hear and understand the gospel message …

Romans 10:14-15 - How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?  15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!"

2.      One must believe the gospel …

Romans 10:17 - So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. NKJV

Mark 16:16 - He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. NKJV

3.      One must repent of sins …

Acts 2:38 - Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Luke 13:3 - I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.

4.      One must confess with the mouth “”Jesus Christ as God’s Son.” …

Romans 10:9-10 - 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. NKJV

5.      One must be baptized {i.e. through “immersion”} …

Acts 2:38 - Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 28:18-20 - 18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19  Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20  teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen. NKJV

THE LORD ADDS THE SAVED TO HIS CHURCH AS THEY ARE SCRIPTURALLY BAPTIZED …

Acts 2:47 - praising God and having favor with all the people; and the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved. NKJV

TWO PARTS TO                                                                                                  MAN’S SALVATION FROM SIN

INTRODUCTION:  Today many religious teachers insist that salvation from sin is acquired through faith only. There are also many religious people today who insist that salvation from sin is acquired by grace through faith alone. There are others in denominational circles that teach that man may be saved by faith and praying the “sinners prayer”. These mentioned formulas generally cover the beliefs of most Protestant

Denominations in America today about the method to acquire salvation from sin.

            Although most of the denominations in the world teach these formulas mentioned in paragraph one, we are interested in what the Bible teaches about “salvation from sin”, not about what men and denominations teach.

TWO PARTS TO SALVATION TAUGHT BY THE BIBLE:

2 Peter 1:3-5 - “3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 5 but also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge” (NKJV). Peter, in the above reading indicates that there are two parts to man’s salvation from sin – “man’s part and God’s part”.

THE TWO PARTS TO MAN”S SALVATION FROM SIN ILLUSTRATED

1.         THE PART THAT GOD HAS PROVIDED:

GRACE – possibilities made possible through God’s benevolence, given absolutely free and placed within the grasp of all mankind – God’s loving kindness to mankind who did not deserve it, cf. Romans 5:6-11 …

Titus 2:11-14 - 11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.

Romans 5:15-19 - 15 But the free gift is not like the offense. For if by the one man's offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded too many. 16 And the gift is not like that which came through the one who sinned. For the judgment which came from one offense resulted in condemnation, but the free gift which came from many offenses resulted in justification. 17 For if by the one man's offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.) 18 Therefore, as through one man's offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man's righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. 19 for as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man's obedience many will be made righteous”

GRANTS REPENTANCE – The Bible is very clear about this facet of God’s grace, man may do everything in his power, even to giving his life up in an effort to acquire salvation but without God’s goodness and willingness to accept his repentance man cannot be saved from sin. Please notice the statement by, Luke 17:10, “Even so ye also, when ye shall have done all the things that are commanded you, say, we are unprofitable servants; we have done

that which it was our duty to do” (ASV).

Notice also the phrase in Acts 11:18, “When they heard these things they became silent; and

they glorified God, saying,” Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life”

PROTECTED BY GOD”S GRACE – God’s grace is so absolutely magnificent toward man that once man is a Christian God keeps him save from the unwanted invasion into his life from the Devil or the Devil’s agents. - 1 Peter 1:5 & John 10:27-30, “27 my sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.  28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.  29 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand.  30 I and My Father are one” (NKJV).

2.         THE PART THAT MAN MUST PROVIDE:

A.        SEEK GOD - Acts 17:24-32, “24 God, who made the world and everything in

it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. 25 Nor is He worshiped with men's hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things. 26 And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their pre-appointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, 27 so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; 28 for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, 'For we are also His offspring.' 29 Therefore, since we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone, something shaped by art and man's devising. 30 Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, 31 because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead

OBEY CHRIST (i.e. the gospel of Christ) - Hebrews 5:8-9, “8 though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. 9 And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him” (NKJV).

ADD THE CHRISTIAN GRACES – 2 Peter 1:3-9

CONTINUE TO GROW IN THE GRACE OF GOD - 2 Peter 3:18, “but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever”.

REMAIN FAITHFUL – Revelation 2:10, “Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life” (NKJV).  glclair@aol.com –

==============================================

Evolution verses Creationism

In the scheme of life we come into this world as the result of a miracle {i.e. whether we acknowledge it or not}. Yes; the very concept of conceiving a child by a man and a woman is in of itself a remarkable event. I have often wondered how a person can verbally confess to being an atheist in view of the events in life that have been on-going in time that has brought him/her into existence.

In the current article I will attempt to establish that the concept of evolution is ridiculous in view of established and existing facts about real factual matters that require nothing but reasonable rationality to grasp as true.

First of all; there is but two choices one can accept; either God exist or evolutionary concepts are true.

In this article I am taking the position that God exist and everything that has ever existed is the result of intelligent design {i.e. GOD}. I reject the hypothesis that the universe came into existence through a “big bang” explosion billions of years ago. I reject the evolutionary hypothesis because in order for there to have been a “big bang” there of necessity had to be something to explode - “some explosive matter. If that explosive matter was gases or matter it had to come from somewhere so there is where the “big Bang” theory falls apart – “How or from where did the material or gasses come into being?” The proponents of the atheistic hypothesis must produce a rational explanation for components of the “big bang” or their theory falls apart.

The argument that eons of time passed before these explosive elements came together is also without rational intelligence. To begin their chain of billions of years in the creation process is surely beyond the rational expectations of the intelligence of man as he exists today. Even though my current argument is a rational choice between acceptance and rejection of evolutionary concepts; the origin of such manipulation of man’s mind is without corruption whenever he looks realistically at the alternative. I have now been on the earth about 76 years; I know this because evidence of my existence is a historical record that can attest to my birth and my past existence to this point in my earthly sojourn.

At this point in the article it will serve no purpose to pursue other evolutionary concepts because there can be no rational acceptance of ongoing change without a foundation on which to build – the “big bang” being shown to be a farce we must pursue rational standards regarding origins from a more realistic perspective – “don’t you agree?”

GOD IS AN ALTERNATIVE TO EVOLUTIONARY

{i.e. ATHEISTIC} PHILOSOPHY.

To subscribe to the current held creationists concepts one has a point to begin - Genesis 1:1-2 - 1 in the beginning God created the Heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. {KJV}

The rational person with normal intelligence will weigh the evidence that is presented in the Book {i.e. he Bible} that God has made to be placed in the hands of man for his own good throughout his existence. God has also given mankind a record of events since through His own devices he has created the universe by the spoken word. Notice that God has not only created the universe and all humanity but He has provided for man’s survival - {air, water, food sources, agricultural, and etc}. These incidentals have been available to mankind since the creation event - cf. Genesis 1-2. There are no believable events in the supposed evolutionary processes; all the processes of evolution are irrational to a thoughtful person.

The Bible {i.e. the history of God, mankind, and the universe as well as survival instructions beyond this physical life}: as God’s medium to instruct man while he abides on the earth and how to prepare for expectations after-life – cf. Jeremiah 10:23 - O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps. {KJV} – The first man and the first woman were created by Almighty God – they were full grown; they were male and female; they were instructed by God to have children – cf. Genesis 1:27 - So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. 28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. 29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. 30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so. 31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

Genesis 2:1 thus the heavens and the earth were finished and all the host of them.

2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

ORIGINS:

Indeed; all things were created and arranged by God in 6 days {i.e. 24 hour days}. From the time of God’s Creation activities until today all the created things have maintained their place in the world and in the actions that God prepared them to perform – {i.e. rain, sunshine, seasons, seed planting and harvest, procreation of man via the union of man and woman, God’s continued care of man and the resources that make it possible for man to continue to survive on earth as he did on the day that God created him.

BIBLE REFERENCES:

Read Genesis 1 and 2 for the processes that God utilized to create – you will note that God spoke and it was so {i.e. it OCCURRED OR CAME INTO EXISTENCE IMMEDIATELY}!

The creation period of six days were 24 hour days; after which God has continued to maintain those created things to this day as the apostle Peter affirms – cf. 2 Peter 3:4-8

- 4 And saying, where is the promise of his coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. 5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: 6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. 8 but, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. {KJV} …

THE AGE OF THE EARTH AND MAN FROM THE BIBLE:

The age of the universe is approximately 6,000 years; the age is easily determined by looking at the genealogies recorded from Adam to the time of Christ and the time of Christ until today {i.e. 2011).

THE STRUCTURE OF EARTH:

The age of the earth is determined by the Creator whenever we consider that the earth is 6,000 years old it dictates that the Creator made it that way when He created it. Whenever man questions the timeline and the structure of the earth by his own standards; he corrupts the purity of God’s revealed record {i.e. the Bible – Genesis through Revelation}.

REFERENCE:

Jeremiah 10:23 - O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps. {KJV}

2 Peter 1:2-3 - 2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, 3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness , through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: {KJV}

WHY CONSIDER CREATIONISM rather than evolution?

Whenever a person reaches accountable age {i.e. attain sufficient age and knowledge to determine reasonable alternative conclusions between two or more choices} they must make decide between life choices; they must choose to accept God’s way of live or the life style and choices dictated by an evolutionary lifestyle; there is actually no other than these two lifestyle choices available to mankind.

The choice to follow God’s lifestyle is based upon that which is offered by living according to God’s Book of life {i.e. the Bible – Example KJV edition}.

Whenever a person makes a decision to pursue God’s directions in life {i.e. follow the Bible} they will abandon the standards of this worlds and the instruction and wisdom of mere men and will cling to the lifestyle of the Christian; that which is described in the New Testament.

BUT WHAT INDUCEMENT

COULD SWAY MAN’S DECISION TO ABIDE WITHIN GOD’S WAY?

1.      Living and accepting evolution’s lifestyle:

1-No restraints except civil law

2-Freedom to live like an animal – go naked, live like a brute beast, become a fornicator, sell you body to those that want to pay your price {i.e. become a female or male prostitute} – it is all your choice with no restraints.

3-Depend upon others to care for your need – become a beggar or a derelict.   4-Marry and divorce as

many times as you please without consideration of others; you only live once.

5-Defraud and steal from other people fearing only the civil law.

6-Kill or murder anyone that offends you or crosses your path understanding that the punishment may be exacted by civil law only once.

7-Abuse and mistreat the children in your relationships on earth knowing that when you die you have finished your existence.

8-Be a murderer, rapist, thief, abuser of others, be dishonest through lies and deceptions with only death as an ending for you.

9-Become an illegal drug abuser – destroy your body, your mind, your family, your life.

10-Develop no respect for the rights, religious beliefs, humanity, etc. of other people.

11-Consume all the beer, wine, and liquor that you want – use these drugs to destroy your kidneys, liver, etc. --- soon you will die and that is all …

AND whenever you die you will soon go back to dust and eventually you will be forgotten.

2.      Living and abiding by God’s standard  …

1-God’s lifestyle requires that one obey the civil authorities {i.e. law} - Romans 13:1-5

1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. 2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? Do that which is good, and thou shall have praise of the same: 4 for he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. 5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. {KJV}

2-God’s standard aids mankind in living morally and socially benevolent, kind, and considerate of every person - Romans 13:7-10 - 7 Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor. 8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. 9 for this, Thou shall not commit adultery, Thou shall not kill, Thou shall not steal, Thou shall not bear false witness, Thou shall not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shall love thy neighbor as thyself. 10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbor: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

3-God’s lifestyle enables and encourages each man and each woman to have their own mate and to treat each other with love, honor and respect - Matthew 19:4-6 - 4 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, 5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife and they twain shall be one flesh? 6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

1 Corinthians 7:2-4 - 2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. 3 Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband. 4 The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife {KJV}

Ephesians 5:33 - 33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband. {KJV}

4- Living according to God’s lifestyle encourages a healthy as well as reverent lifestyle – a person …

{A} develops resistance - 1 Peter 5:8-9 - 8 be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.  9 but resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world. {NASU}

James 4:7 - Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.  {NASU}

{B} patience, Romans 5:3-4 - 3 and not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that

tribulation worketh patience; 4 and patience, experience; and experience, hope: {KJV}

Romans 15:4 - 4 for whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. {KJV}

Hebrews 6:12 - That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises. {KJV}

{C} bear all things, Romans 15:1 - We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. KJV1 Corinthians 10:13 - There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape,

that ye may be able to bear it. {KJV}

Galatians 6:5 - For every man shall bear his own burden. {KJV}

Revelation 2:2 - I know thy works, and thy labor, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: {KJV}

{D} kindness,  Colossians 3:12 - Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness , humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; {KJV}

{E} consideration for others, Colossians 3:12-13 - 12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness , humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; 13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. {KJV}

{F} longsuffering, Galatians 5:22 - But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering,, gentleness, goodness, faith, {KJV}

{G} love for other people, 2 John 5 - And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another. {KJV}

1 John 4:21 - And this commandment have we from him, that he who loves God love his brother also.

Matthew 19:19 - Honor thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shall love thy neighbor as thyself. {KJV}

{H} is faithful to God, Proverbs 28:20 - A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that makes haste to be rich shall not be innocent. {KJV}

Luke 16:10 - He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the

SUMMATION:

It is a fact; people who live according to the influences and are receptive to evolutionary thought {i.e. the philosophy}; are prone to live a lifestyle governed by the hedonistic concept that a person “ought to do their own thing” – “get all the gusto out of life possible” because you only live once. This is the concept of evolution from beginning to ending. Indeed; to the evolutionist there is no after life consequence or reward – there is only nothingness after physical death “HOW SAD A LIFE”

To people who subscribe to God’s directions there is a great difference in their conduct, hopes, and expectations of their life here on the earth and hope of eternal life at the predicted return and judgment of the Son of God; Jesus Christ.

THE GREAT DIFFERENCE …

2 Peter 3:1-14 …

1 this is now, beloved, the second letter I am writing to you in which I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder,

2 that you should remember the words spoken beforehand by the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken by your apostles.

3 The Coming Day of the Lord  Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts,

4 and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation."

5 For when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water,

6 through which the world at that time was destroyed, being flooded with water.

7 but by His word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire, kept for the Day of Judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

8 but do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day.

9 The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.

10 a New Heaven and Earth but the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.

11 since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness,

12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat!

13 but according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.

14 Therefore, beloved, since you look for these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, spotless and blameless,

THE INSTRUCTION TO THE WEAK – TO HEED PAUL’S WARNING

15 and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation; just as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given him, wrote to you, 16 as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction. 17 You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard so that you are not carried away by the error of unprincipled men and fall from your own steadfastness,

18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen. {NASU}  ---  glclair@aol.com --- Friday, June 17, 2011

SEE YOU NEXT MONTH; “Lord Willing.”

{James 4:13-17}.

DO YOU APPROVE OF ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION? DO YOU APPROVE OF ILLEGAL DRUG USE? DO YOU ACCEPT THE WORLD’S STANDARD FOR MARRIAGE AND DIVORCE? DO YOU ACCEPT THE WORLD’S STANDARD FOR YOUR CHILDREN’S SEXUAL ACTIVITY? DO YOU BELIEVE ONLY PART OF THE BIBLE IS ABSOLUTELY TRUE? DO YOU EVER MISS WORSHIP BECAUSE OF SOME UNNESSARY WORLDLY ACTIVITY?

IF YOU CAN ANSWER YES TO ANY OF THE ABOVE QUESTIONS; you are in danger of loosing your wife/husband; your children; your health; and your eternal soul in the Lake of Fire; note the following Scripture references: --- 2 John 9-11 - 9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. 10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: 11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds. {KJV} - James 1:14-17 - 14 but every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. 16 Do not err, my beloved brethren. 17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. {KJV}

THE BIBLE IS … James 1:25 - But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. {KJV} --- 2 Peter 1:3 - According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: {KJV} --- glclair@aol.com --- Saturday, June 25, 2011

WHO IS RIGHT?

{About different answers to the same question}

There are many questions that are brought up today that require an answer; many of the questions have only one possible answer. In many cases questions arise between people in religious settings about matters pertaining to their salvation or manner of  life. The concept that often arises relates to questions of whether or not my understanding of a point of Holy Scripture is correct or flawed. The question is often answered satisfactory to one person and unsatisfactory to the other. Why is this so? Simply because one of the disputants or perhaps both of them misunderstand the nature of the question under consideration. Consequently, the answer becomes a source of friction between them that may never be resolved. This is a serious problem to at least one of the disputants or perhaps both of them because agreement cannot be gained between them on a Biblical point. Now, this may be unimportant in matters of secular nature but whenever questions that have a biblical origin are disputed there is much more at stake.

Whenever we are dealing with a Biblical question there is only one answer that will fit, that answer is not dependent upon a person’s personal feelings, their current lifestyle, their level of knowledge, or any other ambiguous concept; it is dependent upon the absolute truthfulness of the source (i.e. God’s Written Word). The source of the Bible is God, God cannot make mistakes and God is always perfectly clear in his instruction. Therefore if one has found two completely different answers to the same Bible question they have accused God of imperfection, which is impossible, Consequently, whenever two or more solutions are sought to a passage in God’s Word at least one of the seekers is indicating that they do not believe that God is infallible.

Some facts we need to know about the unanswered questions that may cause us some concern follow:

1. IS MY MISUNDERSTANDING OF THE BIBLE QUESTION GOD’S FAULT?

1 Cor. 14:33, For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

Col 4:12, Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always laboring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.

Rom. 12:2, and be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

2 Tim. 3:16-17, 16 all scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 that the man of God may be perfect thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

James 1:25, But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

2. IS MY MISUNDERSTANDING OF THE BIBLE QUESTION MY FAULT?

3. IS MY MISUNDERSTANDING OF THE BIBLE QUESTION MY OPPONENTS FAULT?

4. IS MY MISUNDERSTANDING OF THE BIBLE QUESTION DUE TO BOTH OF OUR BLINDNESS?

James 1:25, But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

Matt 13:15, For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. (KJV)

John 8:43-47, 43 why do ye not understand my speech? Even because ye cannot hear my word. 44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. 45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. 46 Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me? 47 He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

John 12:42-43, 42 Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue: 43 For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

Eph 3:2-4, 2 If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you ward: 3 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, 4 whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) (KJV)

2 Peter 2:12, But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;

CONCLUSION:

The four possibilities to the questions that arise among two or more persons about Biblical concepts is to be found under one of the headings; indeed, either God has made a mistake (i.e. which is impossible) or one of the persons are mistaken or both are mistaken. There is a matter of fact regarding Biblical questions that must be absolute, both of those involved in a dispute over the Bible’s teaching cannot be correct. Ultimately, man is at fault whenever there is an unsolvable question over Bible teaching on any subject. For this reason, we find that true unity between differing positions cause division and there can be no unity where men cannot find common answers to the same Bible question, where they cannot agree that one of them has a wrong understanding and must give it up or that they both need to restudy the problem between them and arrive at agreement. There cannot be two different answers to the same question.

EXAMPLE:

Acts 2:38 either teaches that Baptism is for remission of sins or it does not teach it. If one insists that baptism does not remit sins, that person cannot ever be united with the believer that baptism by immersion results in a person’s forgiveness of sin – cf. 1 Peter 3:21.

“Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32).

WHO SHOULD TEACH THE BIBLE?

It is an acceptable concept that preachers and special educated people should teach the Bible in our world today. If a person desires to teach the Bible he will first consider going to a school that grants Biblical degrees or  he will seek an online theological school that offers degrees in Bible so that  he will be accepted as a credited and qualified teacher, preacher, theologian.   Now, I do not reject the concept of advanced education in any of the previously mentioned type of advanced schools; my problem is that I do not find anywhere in  the Bible that God established an ecclesiastical standard for teachers of the  Bible. That there are no such standards is exemplified by the fact that throughout the whole of the 66 Books of the Bible {i.e. Genesis to Revelation}  God’s teachers, prophets, and chosen leaders were of all types of people from  all walks of life; they were farmers, herdsmen, kings, fishermen, tax collectors, and educated persons [i.e. Saul ? Paul].

There is no indication that God requires that teachers of the Bible have some advanced, accredited degree from a theological school or a graduate study in Bible. So far as is known the writers of the New Testament was fisherman, physicians, a tax collector, and Paul a converted Pharisee; God did not select leaders based on their educational qualifications.  Let me say here; there is no reason to qualify or disqualify a teacher predicated upon the amount of or lack of advanced biblical degrees from an institute of higher learning. Whether a brother in Christ possesses an advanced degree in Bible or not is not the important consideration for the Bible teacher.  The very first quality that a Bible teacher should possess is; that he/she is a Christian. Other important considerations for a Bible teacher is, does he know  the Bible, is he familiar with the concept of interpretation, and the nature and  extent of revelation from God? These and similar qualities are the qualities that enable a person to teach the Bible. Also along this line of reason we must recognize that the teacher ought to know their place in the scheme of God’s plans.

The teacher is not a boss {i.e. the Pope, the Pastor, or His Most Excellent Father, His most worshipful Master, etc.} but he is simply a teacher of the Bible with a task greater than any other and more beneficial to mankind than any occupation he/she may undertake (2 Timothy 4:1-5). It is noteworthy to observe the qualifications of an elder in the church of Christ; he is to be able to teach in such a manner that he can convince the person who is difficult of understanding (Titus 1:9). Indeed, a good Bible teacher must plan, study, and pray about their work of teaching the Bible. Paul the apostle encourages all to be consistent in  teaching; For this cause have I sent  unto you Timothy, who is my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, who shall  put you in remembrance of my ways which are in Christ, even as I teach  everywhere in every church. {ASV}                                                                                                (1 Corinthians 4:17). The Apostle Paul instructed Timothy in the two letters he wrote to him about how to excel as a Bible teacher. Please observe some of the instruction that Paul gave to Timothy:

*   1 Tim. 1:3 - As I exhorted thee to tarry at Ephesus, when I was going into Macedonia, that thou mightiest charge certain men not to teach a different doctrine,

*   1 Tim. 2:12 - But I permit not a woman to teach, nor to have dominion over a man, but to be in quietness. ASV

*   1 Tim. 4:11-16 - 11 these things command and teach. 12  Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an ensample to them that believe, in  word, in manner of life, in love, in faith, in purity. 13 Till I come, give heed to reading, to exhortation, to teaching. 14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. 15 Be diligent in these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy progress may be manifest unto all. 16 Take heed to thyself, and to thy teaching. Continue in these things; for in doing this thou shall save both thyself and them that hear thee. ASV

*   1 Tim. 6:1-2 - 1 Let as many as are servants under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honor, that the name of God and the doctrine be not blasphemed. 2 And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but let them serve them the rather, because they that partake of the benefit are believing and beloved. These things teach and exhort. ASV

*   2 Tim. 2:2-4 - 2 and the things which thou hast heard from me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. 3 Suffer hardships with (me), as a good soldier of Christ Jesus 4 No soldier  on service entangles himself in the affairs of (this) life; that he may please  him who enrolled him as soldier.

*   2 Tim. 2:24-26 - 24 And the Lord's servant must not strive, but be gentle towards all, apt to teach, forbearing, 25 in meekness correcting them that oppose themselves; if peradventure God may give them repentance unto the knowledge of the truth, 26 and they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him unto his will. ASV

*   Also, to the Hebrew Christians Paul wrote concerning the need for teachers to mature and not to become unfruitful (i.e. See also 2 Peter 3:18). Hebrews 5:12-6:1, 12 -For  when by reason of the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need again that some  one teach you the rudiments of the first principles of the oracles of God; and  are become such as have need of milk, and not of solid food. 13 For every one that partakes of milk are without experience of the word of righteousness; for he is a babe. 14 but solid food is for full-grown men, (even) those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern good and evil. Hebrews 6:1 - wherefore leaving the doctrine of the  first principles of Christ, let us press on unto perfection; not laying again a  foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,  ASV

CONCLUSION: Therefore, let us proceed to always speak where the Bible speaks and remain silent where it is silent. Let us also seek purity of mind and doctrine as we undertake to teach the Bible to others wherever we may be privileged to do so. We must take care to present not only sound teaching but present ourselves  as pure, humble, and dedicated servants of the Most High God (i.e. The One True  God.)                                                                                 (Mailto: glclair@aol.com)   ---- Date, 1998 – Biblematters article

Matthew 5:5 – “The meek Inherit the Earth”

(a) God is the owner of this earth – Ps. 24:1 - A Psalm of David. The earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. KJV

(b) Those who obey Christ become children of God – Gal. 3:27 - For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

Heb. 5:9 - And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; KJV --- and "joint-heirs" with the Lord – Rom. 8:17 - And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. KJV

(c) The father supplies all our needs – Phil. 4:19 - But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

KJV --- we therefore enjoy this earth and its blessings more than all others.

(d) Mainly, however, our inheritance is spiritual --- Acts 20:32 - And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified. KJV --- we are heirs in the kingdom of Christ

Eph. 5:5 - for this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. KJV --- and citizenship in the kingdom is available now on this earth --- John 3:3-5 - 3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. 4 Nicodemus saith unto him, how can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? 5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. KJV

Col. 1:13 - Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: KJV

Finally, we also look for an inheritance that is reserved for us in heaven ...

1 Peter 1:4 - To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fades not away, reserved in heaven for you, KJV --- because we are aware that the earth will be destroyed when Christ returns 2 Peter 3:10 - But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. KJV --- glclair@aol.com – May 6, 2011

CONFLICT BETWEEN THE QURAN AND THE KJV BIBLE

{Quran says Jesus is only a Prophet – Bible says Jesus is many things}

The teaching of the Qur’an …

Muslims hold the view of Jesus being only a man in the line of the prophets. Yet, nowhere in their Qur’an does it say this.

However, the Qur’an does go to great lengths to specifically deny what Christianity {i.e. the Bible} teaches on Jesus.

If this is true, that Jesus is only a man as many cults and religions view him, then we would have to question everything written about him from eyewitnesses and even what He said about himself.

In the Qur’an it says in Sura 2:136 “Say ye: "We believe in God, and the revelation given to us, and to Abraham, Ismail, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and that given to Moses and Jesus, and that given to (all) prophets from their Lord: We make no difference between one and another of them: And we bow to God (in Islam)” (Identical statement in Sura 3:84.)

According to Islam, there are 28 main prophets with 124,000 prophets throughout the history of the human race (Note: No one has ever seen the listing of all the names).

Qur'an states: “Whenever someone tells them: 'Believe in what God has sent down;' they say: 'we believe [only] in what has been sent down to us,' while they disbelieve in what has come after that, even though it is the Truth confirming what they already have" (Sura 2:87).

KJV BIBLE STATES …

THAT JESUS CHRIST IS A

(1) PROPHET,  (2) THE SON OF GOD,  (3) GOD WITH US,           (4) SAVIOR OF MANKIND,  (5) REDEEMER,  (6) THE JEW’S MESSIAH, (7) JUDGE OF MANKIND (8) KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS:

(1) Jesus acknowledged that he was a prophet - Matthew 13:57-58 - 57 and they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honor, save in his own country, and in his own house. 58 And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief. (KJV)

(2a) Jesus is the Son of God

. John 20:29-31 - 29 Jesus saith unto him,

John 3:16 - 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. 30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: 31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God ; and (KJV)

(2b) Jesus is the Son of God

Matthew 16:13-18 - 13 when Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, who do men say that I the Son of man am? 14 And they said, some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets. 15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? 16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ [i.e. Messiah}, the Son of the living God. 17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. 18 And I say also unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. (KJV)

(3) God with us –

Matt. 1:21-23 - 21 and she shall bring forth a son, and thou shall call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. 22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, 23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. (KJV)

(4) Savior of mankind –

Eph. 5:23-24 - 23 for the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the savior of the body. 24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. (KJV)

(5) Redeemer, Redemption

A. Verbs. - 1. exagorazo NT:1805, a strengthened form of agorazo, "to buy" (see BUY, No. 1), denotes "to buy out" (ex for ek), especially of purchasing a slave with a view to his freedom. It is used metaphorically (a) in Galatians 3:13 and 4:5, of the deliverance by Christ of Christian Jews from the Law and its curse; what is said of lutron (RANSOM, No. 1) {Vine's Expository Dictionary of Biblical Words}

Gal. 4:4-5 - 4 But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, 5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. (KJV)

Titus 2:14 - 14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. (KJV)

(6a) The salvation of both Jews and Gentiles

 Acts 13:26-32 - 26 Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent. 27 for they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every Sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him. 28 And though they found no cause of death in him, yet desired them Pilate that he should be slain. 29 And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulcher. 30 but God raised him from the dead: 31 and he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people. 32 And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers, 33 God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.

(6b) The salvation of both Jews and Gentiles

1 Cor. 12:12-14 - 12 for even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ.  13 for by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. 14 for the body is not one member, but many.  (NASU)

(7) Judge of mankind

(Both Jews and Gentiles {i.e. includes all humankind})

John 12:47-48 - 47 and if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. 48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. (KJV)

Acts 10:42-42 and he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.

Acts 17:31 -  31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead. (KJV)

(8a) King of Kings and Lord of Lords

1 Tim. 6:14-16 - 14 That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: 15 Which in his times he shall show, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings , and Lord of lords; 16 Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honor and power everlasting. Amen. (KJV)

(8b) Jesus Christ Is Now Reigning Over The Kingdom

Col. 1:13-20 - 13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: 14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: 15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. 19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fullness dwell; 20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. (KJV)

(8c) Jesus Christ Is Now Reigning Over The Kingdom

1 Cor. 15:25 – 26 - For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. [For he must reign till he hath put all enemies under his feet.] This is according to the promise, Ps. 110:1: "The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool." Therefore the kingdom cannot be given up until all rule and government be cast down. So that while the world lasts, Jesus, as the Messiah and Mediator, must reign; and all human beings are properly his subjects, are under his government, and are accountable to him.

Consider this:

Since these observations are truth; are provable from the two sources listed; we conclude that the Quran is mistaken in that it teaches that Jesus Christ is a prophet and only a prophet.

We are encouraged that the Bible {KJV} teaches that Jesus is many things in addition to being a prophet. Therefore we conclude that the person who takes the Quran as absolute truth will not believe the teaching of the Bible {i.e. KJV Version, etc} because both cannot be correct.

This is true of those that accept the Bible {i.e. KJV, etc} to be from the mind of GOD; they believe the teaching about Jesus Christ differently because they subscribe to the teaching therein rather that to the teaching of the Quran.

It should be expected that the adherents to the Quran would defend and seek to convert those that do not accept their Book. They same can be said of those that believe the Bible {i.e. KJV, etc,}. Indeed; Bible believers will defend their Book and its teaching while they seek to convert those that subscribe to some other source of religious authority. This process by Bible believers will be as sincere as those that believe and subscribe to the Quran. This will be a continued problem to any hope of unity with those that subscribe to any source of authority other than the Bible {i.e. KJV, etc}. Those with whom Bible believers disagree are many; they include the Jehovah’s Witnesses; the Muslims; Mormons; the Seventh Day Adventists; and et. This includes any who deviate from the Bible {i.e. the accepted source of religious authority of the Christian system.

ISLAM TEACHES THAT JESUS CHRIST IS

JUST A PROPHET

The teaching of the Qur’an …

Muslims hold the view of Jesus being only a man in the line of the prophets. Yet, nowhere in their Qur’an does it say this. However, the Qur’an does go to great lengths to specifically deny what Christianity teaches on Jesus.

If this is true, that Jesus is only a man as many cults and religions view him, then we would have to question everything written about him from eyewitnesses and even what He said about himself.

In the Qur’an it says in Sura 2:136 “Say ye: "We believe in God, and the revelation given to us, and to Abraham, Ismail, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and that given to Moses and Jesus, and that given to (all) prophets from their Lord: We make no difference between one and another of them: And we bow to God (in Islam)”                                                                       (Nearly identical is stated in Sura 3:84.)

JESUS CHRIST IS REIGNING NOW

As King of Kings over the Kingdom

1 Corinthians 15:20-28

20 But now is Christ raised from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. 21 for since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22 for as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming. 24 Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. 25 for he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. 27 For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith, all things are put under him; it is manifest that he is excluded, which did put all things under him. 28 And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.

           ADDITIONAL COMMENTS - Compiled by G.L.C. from                    (Adam Clarke's Commentary)

{1} 1 Corinthians 15:25

For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. [For he must reign till he hath put all enemies under his feet.] This is according to the promise, Psalms 110:1: "The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool." Therefore the kingdom cannot be given up until all rule and government be cast down. So that while the world lasts, Jesus, as the Messiah and Mediator, must reign; and all human beings are properly his subjects, are under his government, and are accountable to him.

{2} 1 Corinthians 15:26

The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

[The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.] Death shall be destroyed; katargeitai, shall be counter-worked, subverted, and finally overturned. But death cannot be destroyed by there being simply no further death; death can only be destroyed and annihilated by a general resurrection; if there be no general resurrection, it is most evident that death will still retain his empire. Therefore, the fact that death shall be destroyed assures the fact that there shall be a general resurrection; and this is a proof, also, that after the resurrection there shall be no more death.

{3} 1 Corinthians 15:27

For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith, all things are put under him; it is manifest that he is excluded, which did put all things under him.

[For he hath put all things under his feet] The Father hath put all things under the feet of Christ according to the prophecy, Psalms 110.

[He is excluded] i.e. The Father, who hath put all things under him, the Son. This observation seems to be introduced by the apostle to show that he does not mean that the divine nature shall be subjected to the human nature. Christ, as Messiah, and Mediator between God and man, must ever be considered inferior to the Father: and his human nature,

however dignified in consequence of its union with the divine nature, must ever be inferior to God. The whole of this verse should be read in a parenthesis.

{4} 1 Corinthians 15:28

And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.

[The Son also himself be subject] When the administration of the kingdom of grace is finally closed; when there shall be no longer any state of probation, and consequently no longer need of a distinction between the kingdom of grace and the kingdom of glory; then the Son, as being man and Messiah, shall cease to exercise any distinct dominion; and God be all in all: there remaining no longer any distinction in the persons of the glorious Trinity, as acting any distinct or separate parts in either the kingdom of grace, or the kingdom of glory; and so the one infinite essence shall appear undivided and eternal.

And yet, as there appears to be a personality essentially in the infinite Godhead, that personality must exist eternally; but how this shall be we can neither tell nor know until that time comes in which we shall SEE HIM AS HE IS. 1 John 3:2.

Conclusion:

FATHER; SON; AND HOLY SPIRIT UNITED AS

“The One True God”

QUESTION and ANSWER

Brother Clair;

Question - Please tell me why Christians miss many assemblies of the church; offering no reasons for their absences. Isn’t it essential to spiritual growth to be present at all the assemblies if possible?  - Allen G.

Answer …

Hebrews 10:25-27 Perhaps one of the most often violated instructions in the New Testament is the admonition found in Hebrews 10:24-27 - 24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: 25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. 26 For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, 27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. (KJV) There is no plainer command found in the New Testament for Christian to be faithful in attendance than these four verses. Yet; many members of the congregation will be absent from the assemblies several times each month. I am not suggesting that there is never a time when a faithful Christian will miss an assembly.  The problems of health, family, and emergencies will cause many Christians to miss a service occasionally but for a member or family to absent themselves from the assembly two or more times monthly on a continuing basis is surely a sign that faithfulness is not important to them. Perhaps there is more than one cause of their unfaithfulness; please note the following list:

Perhaps they are too involved in worldly pursuits - Titus 2:11-12 - 11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; (KJV)

It is also true that many Christians do not consider it needful to be at all meetings of the church; many consider the Lord’s Day {i.e. Sunday} as the only day needed for complying with the admonition to partake the Lord’s Supper, etc. But the Scriptures state

1 Corinthians 16:1-2 - 1 now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. - Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.

Acts 20:7 - and upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to

depart on the morrow; and continued his

speech until midnight. (KJV)

NOTE --- Acts 20:7 --- [And upon the first day of the week] Showing thus that this day was then observed by Christians as holy time. Compare 1 Corinthians 16:2; Revelation 1:10. [To break bread] Evidently to celebrate the Lord's Supper. Compare Acts 2:46. So the Syrian understands it, by translating it, "to break the Eucharist"; that is, the Eucharistic bread. It is probable that the apostles and early Christians celebrated the Lord's Supper on every Lord's day.  --- (From Barnes' Notes)

NOTE ALSO:

Christians all; are to grow spiritually – requiring attendance at Bible study, gospel meetings, special classes, etc.

2 Peter 3:18 - But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

1 Peter 2:2 - As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: (KJV)

Ephesians 4:15-16 - 15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: 16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

Every Christian ought to seek to grow on a continuing basis; I have been a preacher of the gospel for 52 years and I still am learning more and more as I attend Bible study both as a teacher and as a learner in the teaching of others. We must always do all that we can to gain knowledge so that we can teach others as someone taught us; as Paul instructed Timothy long ago – cf. 2 Timothy 2:1-2 – “Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. (KJV)

I do not know all the reasons for absences at Bible study and other worship times but I am convinced that the Christian who loves the

 Lord and wants to please him as well as to

grow as they ought; will attend every worship privilege and every study session that they possibly can. Don’t you?

JESUS CHRIST IS REIGNING NOW

As King of Kings over the Kingdom of God

1 Corinthians 15:20-28

20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.

21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.

22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.

But when he saith, all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him.

28 And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.

COMMENT:

1 Corinthians 15:25

For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. [For he must reign till he hath put all enemies under his feet.] This is according to the promise, Psalms 110:1: "The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool." Therefore the kingdom cannot be given up until all rule and government be cast down. So that while the world lasts, Jesus, as the Messiah and Mediator, must reign; and all human beings are properly his subjects, are under his

government, and are accountable to him.

1 Corinthians 15:26

The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

[The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.] Death, shall be destroyed; katargeitai, shall be counter-worked, subverted, and finally overturned. But death cannot be destroyed by there being simply no further death; death can only be destroyed and annihilated by a general resurrection; if there be no general resurrection, it is most evident that death will still retain his empire. Therefore, the fact that death shall be destroyed assures the fact that there shall be a general resurrection; and this is a proof, also, that after the resurrection there shall be no more

death.

1 Corinthians 15:27

For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith, all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him.

[For he hath put all things under his feet] The Father hath put all things under the feet of Christ according to the prophecy, Psalms 110.

[He is accepted] i.e. The Father, who hath put all things under him, the Son. This observation seems to be introduced by the apostle to show that he does not mean that the divine nature shall be subjected to the human nature. Christ, as Messiah, and Mediator between God and man, must ever be considered inferior to the Father: and his human nature, however dignified in consequence of its union with the divine nature, must ever be inferior to God. The whole of this verse should be read in a parenthesis.

1 Corinthians 15:28

1 John 3:2. (Adam Clarke's Commentary)

THE EVER PRESENT SAVIOR

{Giving of the Great Commission}

Jesus promised to be with His disciples forever {i.e. until the resurrection and judgment}. The giving of the Great Commission was the prelude to the establishment of the church of Christ on Pentecost some 50 days after Jesus arose from the dead and ascended back to the Father.

There are three references to the final instructions of Jesus to His Disciples; I will list them …

Matthew 28:18-20

18 And Jesus came and spoke unto them, saying, all power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. (KJV)

Mark 16:15-16 - 15 and he said unto them, Go ye into the entire world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned (KJV)

Luke 24:46-48 - 46 and said unto them, thus it  is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day: 47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 And ye are witnesses of these things. (KJV)

Jesus informed His disciples of the commission they had from Him then He told them to wait in Jerusalem until the promise of the Holy Spirit’s coming had occurred – cf... John 14:16-17-16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter , that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.(KJV)

John 14:26 - But the Comforter , which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. (KJV)

John 15:26-27 - 26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: 27 And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.

Luke 24:49 - and, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. (KJV)

From these passages of Scripture we may conclude that the church of Christ did not begin before these events has passed. Indeed, during the lifetime of the Lord on the earth in physical form the church did not exist. Therefore those who suggest that it did are mistaken and may be classified as false teachers.

According to these facts; so presented here by glc it is apparent that the church had its beginning according to Acts 2:1-47. In this reading one will observe that the promise of the Holy Spirit {i.e. the Comforter’s coming} is fulfilled. Not only that but in Acts 2 we find that the first members of the church of Christ numbered about 3,000 – cf. Acts 2:37-40.

There is never before Acts 2:47 any reference to the how one becomes a member of the church of Christ {i.e. the Body of Christ - 1 Cor. 12:27 - Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. (KJV)

Ephesians 4:11-13 - 11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ:

Consider This:

BUT; in Acts 2:47 we find that the Lord adds the saved ones to the church as they are being saved; the Bible does not teach that members are elected into the congregation by vote of the elders, bishops, deacons, preachers, or anyone else but they must first meet the instructions of the Lord  - cf. Hebrew 5:8-9); before the Lord adds them.

FARMING

Living in Ohio is a wonderful opportunity to see large and small farms and to observe the way that the farmers till the earth as well as sow and reap the harvest. Perhaps nothing in the world illustrates the nature of sowing and reaping as well as the act of farming in America.  Some of the most productive farming in the world takes place in the mid-west region of America [i.e. including Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas and other states]. In God’s Book [i.e. the Bible], there are many illustrations that refer to farming and agriculture in general, a few of them follow in our study today:

1.   JESUS TEACHES A LESSON ABOUT THE SUCCESS OF A SOWER OF GOOD SEED AND THE EVENTS THAT BEFALL THE SEED IN A VARIETY OF PLACES, THE SOWER WENT FORTH TO SOW: Matt. 13:3-8, 3 And he spoke to them many things in parables, saying, Behold, the sower went forth to sow; 4 and as he sowed, some (seeds) fell by the way side, and the  birds came and devoured them: 5 and others fell upon the rocky places, where they had not much earth: and straightway they sprang up, because they had no deepness of earth: 6 and when the sun was risen, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. 7 And others fell upon the thorns; and the thorns grew up and choked them: 8 and others fell upon the good ground, and yielded fruit, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. ASV

RESULTS:

JESUS ALSO GIVES THE ANSWER TO THE INQUIRERERS QUESTION: Matt. 13:18-23, 18 Hear then ye the parable of the sower. 19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, (then) cometh the evil (one), and snatcheth away that which hath been sown in his heart. This is he that was sown by the way side. 20 And he that was sown upon the rocky places, this is he that heareth the word, and straightway with joy receiveth it; 21 yet hath he not root in himself, but endureth for awhile; and when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, straightway he stumbleth. 22 And he that was sown among the thorns, this is he that heareth the word; and the care of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. 23 And he that was sown upon the good ground, this is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; who verily beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. ASV

2.   THE APOSTLE PAUL USES THE CONCEPT OF SOWING AND REAPING IN 2 CORINTHIANS TO TEACH A LESSON ON THE SUBJECT OF BENEVOLENCE:                                                                                               2 Cor. 9:8-11, 8 And God is able to make all grace abound unto you; that ye, having always all sufficiency in everything, may abound unto every good work: 9 as it is written, He hath scattered abroad, he hath given to the poor; His righteousness abideth for ever. 10 And he that supplieth seed to the sower and bread for food, shall supply and multiply your seed for sowing, and increase the fruits of your righteousness: 11 ye being enriched in everything unto all liberality, which worketh  through us thanksgiving to God.

3.    PAUL USES THE FIGURE OF AN OX WORKING FOR THE FARMER TO SHOW THAT THE ELDERS AND OTHERS WHO LABOR IN THE WORK OF GOD OUGHT TO BE CARED FOR BY THEIR OWNERS [i.e. those for whom they labor].  1 Tim. 5:17-18, 17 let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and in teaching. 18 for the scripture saith, Thou shall not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out the corn. And, the laborer is worthy of his hire. ASV

4.   IN THE PARABLE OF THE WORKERS IN GOD’S VINEYARD, JESUS IS SHOWING THAT WHOSOEVER COMES TO GOD AND LABORS THEIR LIFE IN FAITHFUL SERVICE WILL RECEIVE HEAVEN’S REWARD FOR THEIR SERVICE. THIS INCLUDES THOSE WHO COME TO CHRIST EARLY OR LATER  [i.e. in time OR in life]: Matt. 20:1-8, 1 for the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that was a householder, who went out early in the morning to hire laborers into his vineyard. 2 And when he had agreed with the laborers for a shilling a day, he sent them into his vineyard. 3 And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing in the marketplace idle; 4 and to them he said, Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way. 5 Again he went out about the sixth and the ninth hour, and did likewise. 6 And about the eleventh (hour) he went out, and found others standing; and he saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle? 7 They say unto him, because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard. 8 And when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the laborers, and pay them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first. ASV

THE PARABLE HERE IS SOLVED IN Matt 20:9-16: 9 and when they came that (were hired) about the eleventh hour, they received every man a shilling. 10 And when the first came, they supposed that they would receive more; and they likewise received every man a shilling. 11 And when they received it, they murmured against the householder, 12 saying, These last have spent (but) one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat. 13 but he answered and said to one of them, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a shilling? 14 Take up that which is thine, and go thy way; it is my will to give unto this last, even as unto thee. 15 Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? or is thine eye evil, because I am good? 16 So the last shall be first, and the first last.  ASV

5.   THE FOLLOWING PARABLE DISCUSSES THE FIG TREE PLANTED IN THE VINEYARD [i.e. the condition of the fig tree represents a disciple’s lack of fruit bearing]. THE LORD SAYS TO CARE FOR IT FOR A WHILE AND TAKE SPECIAL CARE TO SEE THAT IT GETS PROPER ATTENTION BUT IF IT DOES NOT PRODUCE IN THE FUTURE, CUT IT DOWN. Luke 13:6-9, 6 and he spoke this parable; a certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came seeking fruit thereon, and found none. 7 And he said unto the vinedresser, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why doth it also cumber the ground? 8 And he answering saith unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it: 9 and if it bear fruit thenceforth, (well); but if not, thou shall cut it down.

6.      THE LORD USES A SIMILAR FIGURE WHEN DISCUSSING THE WICKED CONDITION OF THE SCRIBES AND PHARISEES --- Jesus warns them, then predicts their ultimate end if they do not correct their sinful condition: Matt. 3:7-8, 7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said unto them, ye offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8 Bring forth therefore fruit worthy of repentance: ASV JESUS SAYS THEY; as a corrupt tree WOULD BE CUT DOWN and CAST INTO THE FIRE:  Matt. 3:9-10, 9 and think not to say within yourselves, we have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. 10 And even now the axe lieth at the root of the trees: every tree therefore that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. ASV

7.   THE LORD USES THE NATURE OF THE MUSTARD SEED TO SHOW THE   GROWTH OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD [i.e. the church of Christ]:                            Luke 13:18-19, 18 He said therefore, unto what the kingdom of God like? And whereunto shall I liken it? 19 It is like unto a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his own garden; and it grew, and became a tree; and the birds of the heaven lodged in the branches thereof. ASV CONCLUSION: While God could have used many things to illustrate these seven facets of truth I have referred to in this study; he chose to use figures that pertain to farming. We today can learn many good lessons about life and true service to God by looking at the figures that use farming and/or AGRICULTURE in the Bible. ---  glclair@aol.com

THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED TODAY

Many people are traveling a road of life without any serious concern for the after-life (i.e. that existence after physical death). I do not know very many people today that are seriously considering the possibility of a life after death. Most people live today as if they do not know anything about God or do not care anything about God. Perhaps this situation is partly due to the success that the Devil has had with the people of the past 75 years (i.e. the children and grandchildren of those born in the early 20th Century}.

Apparently the Bible is not read and consulted today as it was in past generations of American citizens. The condition of our elected officials conduct, the lack of helpful and healthy activities in our schools of learning from grade school through 4 years of college; is not what it was 50-60 years ago. Yes; the church is not as strong and as vocal with Biblical principle regarding marriage, chastity, cleanness, honesty, integrity, faithfulness, and other redeeming qualities as in past times. Indeed; the population of America and the world has grown considerably but wickedness and dishonesty in many ways has increased in a much larger percentage than in past ages. My friends and dear readers this condition in our country and around the word today will continue to become worse and worse if we do not return to the principles of our forefathers who considered the Bible a necessary source for ethics, morals, family life, and human interaction in all situations. What can we expect from a society that is taught by the get rich quick by whatever means works for you – “Do your own thing” -  “you only go around once” – “get all the gusto you can while it is there” – “join the “IN CROWD” – and other good time concepts that have for an ending nothing but sorrow, shame, and destruction.

CONSIDER THIS …

Indeed there is another way to live, raise a family, earn a living, take care of your family and develop lasting and delightful relationships with other people. This is the encouragement that I want to offer to those of you that have not thought about the life of a true Bible believing Christian. Some of the information that is contained in the Bible follows:

1 – God is forgiving and long suffering toward everyone – Rom. 9:22-26 -

22 What if God, although willing to demonstrate His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction? 23 And He did so to make known the riches of His glory upon vessels of mercy, which He prepared beforehand for glory, 24 even us, whom He also called, not from among Jews only, but also from among Gentiles. 25 as He says also in Hosea, “I WILL CALL THOSE WHO WERE NOT MY PEOPLE, 'MY PEOPLE,' AND HER WHO WAS NOT BELOVED, 'BELOVED.'" 26 "AND IT SHALL BE THAT IN THE PLACE WHERE IT WAS SAID TO THEM, 'YOU ARE NOT MY PEOPLE,' THERE THEY SHALL BE CALLED SONS OF THE LIVING GOD." (NASU)

2 – God loves mankind and wants nothing but the best for us all - John 3:16 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (KJV)

John 13:34-35 - 34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. 35 by this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

John 15:12 - This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

Rom. 8:37 - Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. (KJV)

3 – God will forgive us of our trespasses {i.e. sins} if we will believe and obey His teaching - Mark 16:15-16 - 15 and he said unto them, Go ye into the entire world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. (KJV)

Acts 2:38 - Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. (KJV)

John 14:15 - If ye love me, keep my commandments.

John 14:23 - Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me , he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. (KJV)

4 – The New Testament of Jesus Christ teaches us how to be a happy family and to raise happy and healthy children …

Husband & wife relationship – Eph. 5:22-25 - 22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the savior of the body. 24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. 25 Husband, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; (KJV)

Col. 3:18-19 - 18 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. 19 Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.

Col. 3:19 - 19 Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them. (KJV)

Titus 2:4 - That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,

1 Peter 3:5-7 - 5 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husband 6 Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement. 7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honor unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered. (KJV)

Parents & Children relationship – Eph. 6:1-4 - 1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. 2 Honor thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise ;) 3 that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. 4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. (KJV)

Col. 3:20-21 - 20 Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord. 21 Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged. (KJV)

1 John 2:12-13 - 12 I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake. 13 I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.

Consider this final thought …

God is good; we need to return to the standards that God has asked us to apply to our life and relationship to one another. Indeed we can have a better world, a better family relationship, a better society, a honest political system, etc. but only if we adapt ourselves and encourage others to follow the moral and ethical code that is found within the pages of the Holy Bible.

It is also true that if a person wishes to be a Christian one can find within the pages of the New Testament a process that will make it possible to be saved from past sin and be added to the Lord’s church by the Lord Himself (e.g. Acts 2:47).

Jesus versus Paul  “WHAT”

A new Christianity Today article called "Jesus vs. Paul" looks at the current debate among evangelical New Testament scholars (and their students) who seem to be divided into two main camps: those who emphasize Jesus and the kingdom, and those who focus on Paul and justification by faith. Stan Guthrie, who wrote our Bible study of the same name says, "While this seems to be a knotty problem, unprecedented in church history, such theological turf wars are all too common. As Paul disapprovingly told the Corinthians, 'One of you says, "I follow Paul"; another, "I follow Apollos"; another, "I follow Cephas"; still another, "I follow Christ." Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized into the name of Paul?' (1 Cor. 1:12-13). For Paul, it's all about Jesus."

So how do we bring Jesus and Paul together, while doing justice to both? How do we hold to the doctrine of the full inspiration of Scripture, allowing Paul and Jesus to speak for themselves rather than fitting them into our preconceived theological categories? Which gets priority? Which comes first—kingdom or justification?"

Consider this:

The above two paragraphs appeared in Christianity Magazine recently apparently seeking to unite Jesus and Paul as if there were some question about the unity of doctrine espoused by Paul or by Jesus.

In the first place there is no reason to consider that Paul taught or intimated that there was ever any conflict between the teaching of Jesus and his teaching. The only conflict that we find in the early church between the Apostles of Christ was between Peter and Paul over the matter of racism (i.e. Gal 2:11-17 - 11 But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face , because he was to be blamed. 12 For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision. 13 And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation. 14 But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, lives after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews? 15 We who are Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles, 16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. 17 But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid. (KJV).

Consider This:

The Major roadblocks to Christian unity of God’s people resides in the theological concepts that have been introduced by theologians that do not exist in the texts of the New Testament. The concepts that have divided those that sought the true unity for which Jesus pleaded in John’s Gospel {e.g. John 17:6-22 - 6 I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word. 7 Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee. 8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me. 9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. 10 And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them. 11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are. 12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled. 13 And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves. 14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. 18 as thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. 19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. 20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word. 21 That they all may be one ; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. 22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one.  (KJV)

The division that exist in the religious world today exist because of false interpretations and false assumptions regarding the meanings of selected passages of Scripture by individuals who are bent upon causing schism in the church. The individuals who are responsible for schism in each generation will find some passage or passages of Scripture and place an interpretation upon that passage or passages that meet their particular point or understanding and then create more schism which eventually brings into existence another church with some new name that  God will surely bring to naught; even if the person or persons initiating the division are/were honest in their commitment and zeal for their particular doctrine –

NOTE … concerning God’s attitude toward schism or beginning a new denomination … Rev. 22:18-19 - 18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. (KJV) 2 John 9-11 - 9 Whosoever transgressed, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. 10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed. 11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

CONCLUSION:

Yes; the Lord built but one church; but man has built many churches with many different names and many different doctrines. These will surely answer for their apostasy – “SOMEDAY”

LEAVING  THE  CHURCH

Heb. 5:11-6:3 - 11 of whom we have many things to say and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing. 12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. 13 For every one that uses milk is unskillful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. 14 but strong meat belongs to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

Heb. 6:1-3 - 1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, 2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. 3 And this will we do, if God permit.

Comments …

The text of our study today has to do with the growth process of a new convert [i.e. one that has recently become a Christian]. The new Christian is considered a baby at the time of their baptism cf. Heb. 5:13 - For every one that uses milk is unskillful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. (KJV)   The person who has recently volunteered to be a Christian is like a newborn baby; without ability and ready to begin the growth process from infant to adult [I.e. unknowing child to knowledgeable spiritual adult – one capable of understanding and teaching another person].

Paul is telling the Hebrews that they ought to be full-grown-Christians because of the length of time that they had been Christians. Yet, he chastises them for their failure to grow in the spiritual sense (i.e. from baby to full-grown Christians].

Conclusion:

From this passage of Scripture and others it is apparent that new born Christians are to avail themselves of each and every opportunity that is available to them of learning more and more about their responsibilities and conduct as Christians. Indeed; no Christian will, grow unless they are conscious of the need to ingest more and more spiritual food [i.e. avail themselves of opportunities to learn through Bible study sessions, gospel meetings, and other special opportunities] to learn about their new life; as a Christian.

This growth process is encouraged by the Lord throughout the Scripture; note the following passages that so teach …

Eph. 4:15-16 - 15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: 16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, makes increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love. KJV

1 Peter 2:2-5 - 2 as newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word that ye may grow thereby: 3 if so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious. 4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, 5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. KJV

2 Peter 3:15-18 - 15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; 16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. 17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own steadfastness. 18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. KJV

So; then; let us come quickly to a proper understanding of our responsibility as a new Christian to put forth reasonable effort to grow spiritually as God directs us. May God bless our efforts to provide opportunities for all new Christians to grow and be eventually mature enough to teach and understand the strong and difficult passages of Scripture. --- glclair@aol.com --- January 2011

FACTS ABOUT THE CHURCH IN OUR TIME

Today we are living in a time when the economy in our country is as bad as it was during the great depression of the late 1928-1940s. There is perhaps 35% of the working class in America that cannot find a job sufficient to support their family. When we look at this situation it is surely also effecting the amount of money that is being contributed into the treasury of each congregation in the country and also effecting the amount of support from good Christians that supply benevolence and evangelist needs in other countries.

What is the answer? We must continue to do whatever we can with our personal resources When we meet to worship as regards our contribution; Yes, surely many Christians today are severely effected by the down-turn in jobs and income due to the high cost of taxes on nearly everything that we possess. Add to this the political and moral laxity that is now being paraded via the w.w.w., movies, and TV and we have a crisis not only of economics but also a crisis of morality and temptations of Satan to draw away the weak and marginal church attendees.

Recently I have seen a copy of a report on the condition of the Lord’s church in the Los Angeles, CA by brother Royce Bell that states, and I quote – “My association with the Venice CA. church is one of the oldest churches in the Los Angeles basin, having a rich heritage of faithfulness through the years. In the past 20 years or so, over 25 churches in the LA area have simply closed their doors. Venice is the only congregation in the entire area numbering about 15 souls.” From this report we can see that things are not progressing very well in the California area but lets be honest; how many congregations in the area where you attend worship has grown significantly in the past 10-20 years? Perhaps it is the problem we have already referred to in this article but it may be that the world (i.e. the Devil) is having some success with the past two generations that has caused much of the lack of growth and maturity in many churches.

Friends, brethren, we have to wake up to the problems that are current among us; where will the church be 25 years from now where you attend worship? I wonder if many of the current sound churches will be in existence “don’t you?” The Bible is our guide and that must always remain a steady fact for future efforts at building up the church locally and in other places. We must use whatever resources we possess in evangelism and teaching locally as much and as often as we can establish a study session with the un-churched, the backslidden, and the just used to be Christians as well as our family and in-laws. The Great Commission is still our call to work as it has been since Christ arose from the dead – let us all shoulder whatever responsibility we possess with our knowledge and ability as we ought – cf. Matthew 28:18-20. Indeed; may we reconcile ourselves to the task before us and take the time to spread the gospel as much as possible while we are still here in the world – cf. Eccl. 11:5-6 - 5 As thou knows not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knows not the works of God who makes all. 6 in the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knows not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good. KJV

John 6:27-29

27 Labor not for the meat which perishes, but for that meat which endures unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

28 Then said they unto him, what shall we do, that we might work the works of God?

29 Jesus answered and said unto them, this is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. KJ

James 1:25

25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continues therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work , this man shall be blessed in his deed. KJV

Titus 3:1

1 Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work, KJV

1 Thess. 1:3

3 Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father; KJV

John 6:28-29

28 Then said they unto him, what shall we do, that we might work the works of God?

29 Jesus answered and said unto them, this is the work of God that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. KJV

Consider This:

Perhaps I am just an alarmist but in recent years I have witnessed a decline in many congregations where I have been privileged to visit for gospel meetings and other matters. Many brethren are concerned and worried about the state of the church. Can we simply say; brethren we must be about our Heavenly Father’s business (i.e. the business of saving souls that are caught in the grips of sin) – cf. As our Lord says; “I must be about my Father’s business” Luke 2:44-49 - 44 But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance. 45 And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him. 46 And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. 47 And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers. 48 And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. 49 And he said unto them, how is it that ye sought me? know ye not that I must be about my Father's business? (KJV)

LOCAL HAPPENING

The congregation will have a prayer meeting scheduled at 6:00 P.M. on Sunday; January 2, 2011 - Everyone is encouraged to be present for this occasion. There will be nine brethren participating in the prayer session. If you possible can be here we do encourage it;

Remember this...

 James 5:16 - Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availed much. KJV
